Conditions testing but Lilydale gets through show program
LILYDALE Agricultural Society is one of the few that has managed to conduct a full show in this year’s very wet spring.
With a packed program, the two-day event soldiered on with the good fortune on the first day of the rain arriving just as the last class was judged.
Numbers in classes were reasonable considering many competitors this year have simply thrown their hands in the air and decided to wait to see if autumn has better manners.
“It was a hard show, “organiser Sally Centrone said. “The grounds had to be moved around due to the conditions as rides couldn’t run in their usual spot so we moved temporarily out the back with the horses and it poured with rain Saturday night.
“No one could park on the grassed areas so luckily we had a big path to park everyone on, which took some doing but we made it. Super wet conditions but not unlike what we all used to ride in years ago.
“We made it and the boots survived”.
Exhibitors were appreciative: “An incredible gutsy effort to run the show, I couldn't believe how everyone was so thoughtful helpful and we made sure we all fitted in and had a chance to compete, well done to you all.”
