Geelong takes a punt and is rewarded with a great show
GEELONG Royal Show is a major event in Victoria and despite the epic storms and rain in the preceding week, the committee was confident horse events could still be held and was proven right.
The show’s horse section has a small but knowledgeable committee.
“Young but experienced in different aspects which is fabulous,” member Brent Albon said.
“We all work well together.”
The show has had “Royal” status since 2005 and unlike Melbourne, it has maintained its Agricultural aspect, with animals one of the main features. Because of this it has become very popular with competitors and spectators.
There was a lot of “for and against” before the show and in this current world of the internet, some wide opinions.
Some chose to attend, some chose to stay home and a third group that may well have attended were too busy moving their stock and belongings to higher ground to worry about a show.
A spokesperson said the showgrounds had installed a new drainage system, and they were confident it would stand up.
The event was blessed with two fine days on the weekend, so those that attended had a good show.
