'Queenie' shows off her diva moves to take the sashes
FOAL shows fill the time after the big autumn shows stop and finish just before the breeders decide which of their “ducklings” will develop into swans.
Hannah-Rose Shilcock already knows her Welsh Cob filly Haluma Park Cerys is a swan.
For the second year in a row, the chestnut was awarded best youngstock Welsh Cob and supreme Welsh Cob at the NSW All Breeds Foal Show at Hawkesbury.
Royally bred from all imported bloodlines, the filly’s breeder has plans for her.
“Her paddock name is Queenie and she is an absolute diva,” Hannah-Rose said.
“I am so proud to have bred her and cannot wait to watch her develop into a mare. The plan with Queenie is to do a few youngstock shows next year in Victoria and Queensland and then get her going under saddle.”
Hannah-Rose has her sights set on the Welsh Pony and Cob Society’s International Show in 2028, where she hopes to have her competing under saddle as a ridden cob mare.
“I would also love to give her a go at the young horse dressage classes next year as a four-year-old,” she said.
“Longer term, I would like to breed with her, but I need to find the perfect boyfriend.”
Runner up to Haluma Park Cerys was Woranora Distinction, who was also best in-hand foal exhibit.
Woranora stud has been breeding ponies since 1980 and continues to produce lovely, active ponies.
In the Part Welsh section, the grand champion was Cloverhill Crown Princess, shown by the Wilson Family, with Prue Kursa’s Paulgren Park Mr Vengeance runner up.
Mr Vengeance, winner of the supreme part bred foal sash, is a baby with a real future as a saddle pony and typical of the stud’s young sire, Paulgren Park Victory, who also sired the winning part-bred gelding, Paulgren Park Vanquish.
Other notable winners were in the foal classes: PSB Legacy in the Welsh filly of cob type, shown by Sharon Kitchener; Welsh Cob colt foal, Haluma Park Aeron exhibited by Hannah-Rose Shilcock; Blair Farley’s Salient Park Tudor Rose in the Welsh Cob Filly foal class; Welsh Section A Filly Woranora Taffeta, shown by Helen Dohan; Susan Lyons’ Welsh Section B Colt Lyons Lane Mardi Gras.
