THERE was a big weekend of shows in NSW as the build up to the Easter finale at Sydney Royal rolls on.

The Riding Pony show held at Hawkesbury Showground hosted two international judges, Beverly Moore and Jerome Harforth, both no strangers to Australia having judged at numerous profile events over the last few years.

They were here on holiday and happy to assist with our own Sue Oberg, with Beverly commenting on the quality of the ponies presented and courtesy of all the handlers.

The supreme led senior show pony was Royalwood After Dark, shown by Emily Mears. In the show hunter ring Kirsten Strath’s Rathowen Suddenly A Star took home the supreme led senior show hunter pony.

Long-time exhibitor of top ponie Joanne Prestwidge showed the supreme led junior show pony Royalwood Heavenly Chorus and the supreme led junior show hunter pony was Gentry Park Country Mile shown by Teneille Tuoro.

The ridden classes were judged by Jerome Harforth who chose Liz Daly’s Merry Jewel of Royalwood as his champion ridden show pony 14.2hh and under, and Joanne Prestwidge took home another sash for reserve with Royalwood Stage Princess.

Leanne Corney’s Bells Mountain Arizona was champion ridden show hunter pony 14.2hh or under and reserve was Double TT Jealousy, shown by Nicole Groom.

The event also offered classes for open show hacks and open show hunters for ponies, galloways and hacks as well as other breed classes, and they were well supported.

Over at Berry, their 2023 Agricultural Show was held over two days. “We were absolutely thrilled to be able to hold our show after three years of cancellations due to bushfires and Covid, organiser Gillian Orford said.

“Beautiful weather over the two days saw some lovely quality horses presented by exhibitors from all across the state.”
