THE elegance and versatility of Welsh ponies and cobs has been showcased at the South Australian branch of the Welsh Pony and Cob Society of Australia’s Winter Performance Show at Strathalbyn.

The show featured a variety of classes, catering to both novice and experienced riders.

Competitions included in-hand classes, where ponies and cobs were judged on conformation and movement, as well as ridden classes, demonstrating their agility and trainability under saddle.

Each class was a testament to the breed’s versatility, with ponies and cobs competing in dressage, adult riding club classes and working hunters.

Some of the highlights of the show for the younger competitors were the tiny tot’s freestyle dressage competition, hobby horse working hunter and the highly anticipated fancy dress competition.

The ridden classes attracted good entries as the event served as an Australian Ridden Championships qualification for the Welsh National Show to be held in March.

The success of the event was testament to the hard work and dedication of a small-but-devoted committee in promoting and preserving this cherished breed.
