DRESSAGE riders have been serenely circling in the Werribee Park arenas at the annual inter-club weekend.

It’s a shared format; Whittlesea-Plenty Valley Dressage Club holds its events one day followed by the Victorian Dressage Club (VDC) Inter Teams competition the next.

It makes for a harmonious weekend in a graceful sport.

While dressage is often considered a sport for women, there are a lot of very talented men featuring at all levels.

Jason James’ Total Zensation was advanced champion with solid scores on both days and David Shoobridge’s Azett was the medium champion on the first day.

It was the first start back in advanced for Jason and Total Zensation after some hoof trouble.

“We are just so pleased to have her back in the ring after a shoeing incident with stray nails,” he said.

“It was her first step up at that level after only being back under saddle for four months.

“I’m super happy with her progression in balance and self-carriage – now just to iron out the rider mistakes.”

Being quite early in the season where were no dramatic scores, but in the up-and-coming horses in the Prix St George on both days, Jessica Dertell with Kilimanjaro, Shanon Mckimmie’s Jaybee Ali, Jenny Bray’s Camden and Fiona Smith’s Bluefields Denoir are obviously all horses with a future.

Jessica Dertell rode Volbeat for the elementary championship at the VDC competition and the Whittlesea-Plenty Valley champion in this group was Kate Dennis’ Fidelius.

Michelle Baker rode RM Raspberry to win the medium at the VDC event.

In the preliminary levels, Karen Blythe’s MP Romancier was the champion on both days.
